Buying and Selling Questions
What should I check before buying a used Freeman?
Before buying a used Freeman, compare the exact boat’s equipment and service history, then arrange an independent survey and engine inspection. Model name, year and advertised engine hours are a starting point, not a condition report. Ask for a current specification sheet, maintenance records and a list of known repairs before deciding which boat to view.
What it depends on
Start with a written list of what your boat needs to do: typical crew, fishing style, storage location and the equipment you intend to use. Compare that list with the actual boat, rather than assuming every Freeman of the same model has the same layout or options.
Questions to take to the viewing
- Which engines are installed, and what records accompany each one?
- What equipment is included in the sale, and what will the seller remove?
- Have the hull, electrical installation or major accessories been repaired or modified?
- Can the seller provide invoices and explain any gaps in the records?
- Which items need to be demonstrated during inspection?
Make a separate list of unanswered questions. Ask an independent marine surveyor and an engine technician to define their inspection scope. A clean presentation or an impressive electronics package does not replace that work.
How we help
Silver King Yachts can help you compare Freeman listings and identify the questions to resolve before a viewing. Send us the listings you are considering and the equipment you need. Keep the surveyor’s condition findings separate from the broker’s explanation of the listing.
If you are still choosing a size, start with our Freeman 43 and 47 comparison.
Common questions
Is a low-hour Freeman automatically the better buy?
No. Compare documented maintenance, current condition, installed equipment and inspection findings alongside the hours. A low number does not answer those other questions.
Should I inspect every engine?
Ask the engine technician to assess each engine and explain the proposed tests. Do not assume one engine’s records or results describe the whole installation.
Does a sea trial replace a survey?
No. An on-water run and an independent condition assessment answer different questions. Agree the scope of both before arranging them.
